What is the difference between a Solo and Tandem flight?
A solo flight is when you go up in the parachute on your own. A tandem flight is when you fly with a friend/family member – we have a tandem bar that seats you side by side not behind each other. You will not be paired with a stranger. Please note that there are weight limits – see below.
My youngest wants to try parasailing, are there any age limits?
12 years and over can fly on their own however they will need a legal guardian to fill out a liability release form at check-in. Under 12’s are welcome to fly but only in tandem with an adult over 18yrs old. The minimum age is approximately 6 years old but is more dependent on their size – they will need to fit safely into our smallest harness. How do the family package prices work?
A family package of 4 is valid for 2 Adult & 2 Children (14yrs & Under) doing 2 x Tandem Flights (Not applicable for 1 x Tandem & 2 x Solos or 4 x Solos for example) A family package of 3 is valid for 1 Adult & 2 Children (11yrs & Under) doing 2 x Tandem Flight with the adult flying twice (once with each child) As a child under 12 years old must fly with an adult this package allows for those occasions where one parent/guardian is not so keen on giving parasailing a go but you have 2 children under 12years who of course need to still fly with an adult!
Do I need experience or any special skills to do parasailing?
Definitely not, we do all the hard work for you! All you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the view!
I have a fear of heights – is it really scary?
Many people have a fear of heights and think that Parasailing is not for them. All we can say is – give it a go! The experience is far more gentle and relaxing than you think and you only have to read our reviews on Facebook and TripAdvisor to see how much people love it – even if they normally have a fear of heights! Parasailing is very serene and peaceful. Take-off's and landings are very slow and gentle making you feel as if you are truly "floating on air".
Do you take-off from or land in the water?
No, you take-off and land directly on the boat! After we fit you with a special parasail harness, you are seated, solo, or next to your partner on the flight deck and then gently launched from the boat and retrieved using a hydraulic winch system.
What is the Mega Flight upgrade?
The normal height is approximately 80 meters high (dependent on wind levels and passengers weight) The Mega flight will take you to a height of approx. 120 meters. So if you are up for an extra thrill this is for you – just $20 extra per flight (not per person).
Are there any weight limits?
While there are weight limits, both minimum and maximum, they vary greatly depending on the wind levels and conditions on the day. Please contact us if you wish to discuss this further.
What times do you depart?
We usually run a 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 3.30pm during the main season. These times can change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. During the high season (all school holidays) we sometimes put on additional flights if required or change the times to enable us to fit more trips in. Please note that in the quiet season we may only run one or two trips a day, one in the morning and/or one in the afternoon, please contact us to check times if you do not see a time that suits you.
How long should I allow for the whole trip?
The total trip time is dependent on how many people we have on board (maximum of 10 passengers). If we have a full trip you should allow 1.5hrs in total but most trips (from check-in to arriving back to the marina) will be between 45min and 1hr. If you have somewhere to be after parasailing with us please let us know at the time of booking.
Where do you go – what will I see?
Our shop is located in the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina (Previously The Reef Marina), Port Douglas. After checking in here you board our boat at the marina before heading out of the river. We have two areas to fly in – Just off the point near Anzac park where the Sunday markets are located or off to the left up the coast which is more sheltered on higher wind days. You will always get wonderful views of Port Douglas and the surrounding rainforest and don’t forget to also look out for sea life – especially in the whale season!
Can I go along just to watch as a spectator?
Yes, although priority is given to actual parasailiers. Spectator spots can be requested at the time of booking but are taken on a 'stand-by' basis only. If there are still spots available immediately prior to departure you can join us for a charge of $30 per person. We do our best to keep spectator spots free but cannot guarantee space will be available, especially during the busy school holidays.
How far in advance do I need to make a booking?
Bookings are essential and can be done here online or by contacting us. We highly recommend booking at least the day before you wish to travel, and suggest booking a couple of days before during any school holiday dates. Please note that in quieter times we may only run one or two trips a day so it’s best to check here online or contact us. You are welcome to come to our shop in the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina at the brochured times but we cannot guarantee that specific trip will be running or the availability of course. Please also note that we do sometimes change the departure times to allow for weather or general operational reasons. Please contact us for same day bookings.
What should I wear – will I get wet?
You can wear swimwear or shorts & t-shirt (skirts & dresses are not recommended as you will be wearing a harness!) Bear in mind you may get a little wet even if you don’t opt for a water dip! You may wish to bring a towel, especially if you opt for a water dip, but this is the tropics – you will dry off pretty quickly!
Does a water dip cost extra?
No – it’s all part of the fun! A water dip is when the skipper slows the boat so that you gently lower to the water for a ‘water dip’ and then when he speeds back up you float back up into the air! If you are adamant that you do not want to get wet then please make sure the skipper is aware! – you may also want to tell your traveling companions as the skipper can fold under pressure!! Please note that during ‘stinger season’ (Nov-Apr) water dips will only be ankle deep.
Can I take my belongings on the boat?
You can bring a small bag with you on the boat. All bags should stay dry but we cannot guarantee they will not get wet so please think about the items you bring with you. Belongings can be left in the shop if you prefer.
Does the weather restrict the parasailing trips?
Yes, parasailing is a very weather dependent activity unfortunately. We cannot not run in high winds over 20 knots or in heavy rain. We will always contact you with as much notice as possible if we feel the weather is going to affect a trip to give you the opportunity to reschedule. However please note that sometimes the weather can change very quickly and we may have to cancel very last minute. On very rare occasions the weather can turn while out on the water – please understand that should the skipper deem the conditions unsafe to continue he will have to return to the marina. In all of these circumstances you will be offered a full refund, if you have not parasailed, or we can move you to another trip/day.
I have a medical condition – will this be a problem?
If you have a medical condition that may affect or be affected by parasailing you need to let us know. For example, but not limited to, Back/Neck issues, Leg/ Ankle issues, Epilepsy. The severity of the issue in comparison to the weather conditions may result in you not being able to participate. There are very few conditions however that would prevent you from parasailing but we must take into consideration the weather conditions. Pregnant woman cannot Parasail, sorry. Please contact is you would like to discuss any special requirements.
I don’t have a waterproof camera – Do you take photos?
We do not take dedicated photos as having a photographer on board would take up valuable space. However, other participants are usually very happy to take photos of you using your camera and you can return the favour. You are welcome to bring your own phone/camera/GoPro, but this is as your own risk. Alternatively we have a limited number of Go Pros available for hire – these are on a first come first served basis so please book in advance. You can capture wonderful video or photos of your experience and we give you the 8GB Micro SD Card to take home with you.
Do you do gift vouchers?
Yes we do. You can either purchase a specific activity here online or if you prefer to just purchase a $Value voucher that the recipient can use towards any activity by just paying the difference, then please contact us by phone or email. Vouchers are valid for 12 months. You can also purchase them from our shop with cash or credit card.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations & Changes within 24-12 hours from departure may incur a fee. 50% cancellation charge for bookings cancelled/changed the day before travel, unless outside of 24hr prior to actual departure time. 100% cancellation charges apply with no refunds given for same day cancellation/changes or no-shows. With consideration to your safety we reserve the right to cancel hires, without notice but with a full refund, due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Funds up to the full amount can be deducted from the credit card on file by Uplift Watersports in the event a booking is not cancelled as per Uplift Watersports Terms & Conditions or if any participants fail to turn up at the booked time (ie If you book 4 people but only 2 people turn up then you will not receive a partial refund unless cancelled with enough notice. Please note that if you need to amend the date/time of your booking or cancel part or all of your booking you should do this at least 24 hours before travel to avoid any charges being made to your credit card held on file. If we are able to re-sell your seat at any time prior to the departure time, and we will do our best to do so, then a full refund will be given - so the more notice you give us then the better chance we have of reselling the spot.
